Blunt Notion has been shortlisted for Small Business of the Year Award at the Somerset Business Awards 2026, organised by the Somerset Chamber of Commerce.
For a small web design and development studio based in Yeovil, this is a big moment. The category recognises businesses with a turnover of up to £0.5 million that show strong performance, resilience and a clear contribution to the local economy.

What the Somerset Business Awards recognise.
The Somerset Business Awards are the county’s flagship business awards, celebrating companies, charities and organisations of all sizes from right across Somerset. Run by the Somerset Chamber of Commerce, they highlight real work being done in the region – from micro-businesses and family firms to large employers and innovative start-ups.
The Small Business of the Year Award, sponsored by Gather Technology, focuses on small businesses that demonstrate strong financial management, clear strategy, good customer service and a positive impact on staff and community. Being shortlisted alongside other Somerset businesses is something we’re genuinely proud of.

A small Yeovil studio with clients across Somerset, the UK and Europe.
Blunt Notion is an independent web design and WordPress development studio based in Yeovil, Somerset. The focus has always been simple: build fast, reliable websites that are easy to manage and actually help clients win better work – not just look busy.
Most of our projects sit in three core areas:
- Custom WordPress sites, largely built with a custom stack providing a multitude of benefits
- Shopify development for e-commerce brands
- Ongoing technical SEO, performance and hosting support
Recent work includes projects for Geo-Design, Animal Control Officers, and CK Roofing Somerset – covering everything from strategy and content to design, development, SEO and long-term support.
Alongside direct clients, a big part of the work is white-label development for design and marketing agencies who want a trusted technical partner behind the scenes. They handle the client relationship and creative direction; we take care of the build, performance and ongoing maintenance.
The business is intentionally small. That’s deliberate. Staying lean means every project gets proper attention, communication stays direct, and budgets stay realistic for the small and medium-sized businesses we work with.
Grateful for our clients, partners and white-label agencies.
This shortlist is not just about Blunt Notion – it’s about the people and organisations who’ve backed us:
- Local trades and service businesses who needed a solid website and decided to invest properly, rather than patch things together.
- Professional consultancies, arts and community organisations who trusted us with more complex sites, integrations and content-heavy builds.
- Agencies who bring us in under their own brand on white-label WordPress and Shopify projects, often on tight timelines and higher technical demands.
Those relationships matter. They keep the work varied, keep standards high, and allow a small Yeovil studio to quietly contribute to projects across Somerset and the wider UK.
If you’re one of those clients or partners: thank you. This shortlist is as much yours as it is ours.
What this nomination means for Blunt Notion?
Being shortlisted for Small Business of the Year doesn’t change the day-to-day reality: there are still sites to ship, bugs to fix, content to refine and performance issues to chase down. But it does mean the effort is being noticed – not just the visible case studies, but the quiet work that goes into looking after clients properly once a site is live.
The aim isn’t to “scale up” into a big agency. If we lost the ability to be hands-on and honest with people, we’d lose the very thing that makes Blunt Notion useful. The goal is to stay sustainable, support local businesses and agencies, open doors to bigger businesses and keep doing good work for fair money.
Over the next year, the focus remains the same:
- Helping Somerset and UK businesses get websites that are fast, usable and easy to manage
- Supporting agencies that need reliable white-label web design, development and digital marketing
- Continuing to refine our hosting, maintenance and SEO offer so clients don’t have to worry about the technical side at all
If you’re a business in Somerset, or an agency anywhere in the UK, and you’re looking for a web developer who actually cares about the build and the long-term support, feel free to get in touch.
